havet innafor - the sea within

Hå gamle prestegard - summerexhibition 2024

The HAVET INNAFOR exhibition features two extensive video works / sound installations that remain at the crossroads between visual art, performing arts and music.
Pieces that Fall
The video work thematises complexity and uncertainty in relation to a given state; the instability of time and space. Landscape, geography and the space around us are affected by light, temperature and what / who resides in them. There are movements in the bedrock, glaciers calve, fog comes and goes, the landscape becomes denser. It is like waves of particles moving in an incomprehensible system of their own. The invisible / incomprehensible system of particle movements can also be transferred to human opinions, memories, emotions, crowds and technology. Society and everyday life sometimes change in invisible waves. Displacements occur without us having fully seen or understood how the transfer took place.

The Sea Within
Projected images drift rhythmically across surfaces producing a spatial atmosphere that contrasts with the room’s architectural meaning. From an inclined surface, moving lines form new compositions that push out of the work. The work can be interpreted as a particle system in motion as a metaphor for how we alternate between a sense of direction and disorientation, anchoring and free flow.

The sense of being in motion is central to Myskja’s work. The gaze, the senses, mind, body, and human interaction form the basis for kinetic compositions that address displacement and transformation as fundamental dynamics of our mode of existence, whether the movement is an aspect of memory, emotion, human crowds, or technology.

Myskja has invited choreographer Ingri Fiksdal to create a new work for the installation The Sea Within. Ingri Fiksdals performance work was first shown at Kunstnerforbundet, Oslo in 2022.
At Hå gamle prestegård the result has been a performance with four dancers (Therese Markhus, Thea Dolmen, Viljar Moe and Inez Castell) who will be seen as part of the exhibition at the exhibition opening on 1 June, 2 June and the last opening day on 1 September 2024.

Eurydice turns and disappears
”Here are two beautiful and visually striking video and sound installations framed of the rafters in the high attic gallery space at Hå GP. The flow of electronic images and analogue sound flows together and is framed by the timelessness of the old architecture and invites full concentration.
It hardly gets better.”
